Here's what you need to know.

The dictionary file is a big list that looks like this:

   can not|caint|0|100
   computer|bucket uh bolts|0|33
   computer|doohicky|0|34
   computer|newfangled contraption|0|33
   component|dealy-bob|1|20
   ooking|ookin|1|100
   united states of america|US of A|0|100
   united states|US of A|0|100

It breaks out like this:

• [Input] | [Output] | [Partial] | [Odds]
  • [Input]: Word or phrase to look for
  • [Output]: Word or phrase to replace it with
  • [Partial]:
     0: Only replace whole-word occurrences of [Input]
     1: Ok to replace [Input] if found inside another word/phrase
  • [Odds]: 1-100: Odds to make this particular replacement

This Is How it Works:

• In the example above, "can not" will always be replaced (100%) with "caint." But only when it's found all by itself ([Partial]=0) so "can nothing" will not be replaced.
• There is a 100% chance that "computer" will be replaced with one of three possible outputs (buket u bolts 33%, doohicky 34%, and newfangled contraption 33%). But only when it's found all by itself ([Partial] is "0" for all three).
• "ooking" will be replaced with "ookin" 100% of the time, even if it's found inside other words or phrases like "booking," "cooking," "looking" because [Partial] is "1" for this replacement.
• It is not necessary for the [Odds] value(s) for a given [Input] word/phrase to add up to 100. For example "component" (above) only has a 20% chance of being replaced with "dealy-bob." 80% of the time it will be left as-is.
• Don't worry too much about [Partial] and [Odds]; i'll probably review and change those anyway.
• [Input] values are weighted at runtime by counting how many spaces each contains. Phrases with more spaces are processed first so an entry for "The United States of America" (above, weight =4) will be processed *before* an entry for "United States" (weight = 1). Not that it matters in this particular case.
• The [Output] from one replacement is never used as the [Input] for another.
• Be careful picking [Input] words/phrases; it's more-difficult than it seems at first. Many words have alternate meanings or word forms (noun, verb) making them bad candidates for simple replacement without understanding their context in the sentence. And currently this tool is only doing simple replacements; it's not smart enough to distinguish word forms. Here are some examples that might seem ok but really don't work:
  • case|sack: works with "i'll take a case of prunes" (i'll take a sack of prunes) but doesn't work in "in case you hadn't noticed" (in sack you hadn't noticed)
  • like|hanker fer: works with "i like her" (i hanker fer her) but doesn't work with "it's like a rainstorm (it's hanker fer a rainstorm)

Reasons I might not use a suggestion

There are word forms where it wont work

I already have it in the dictionary but it's just not setup to be replaced 100% of the time

The [Output] doesn't seem 'rednekked' enough to me.
